Geográfica

La Ciudad de Hermosillo se ubica en el municipio con el mismo nombre que se encuentra al Oeste del Estado de Sonora y que se localiza en el paralelo 29^o05´ de latitud norte y el Meridiano 110^o 57' de longitud al Oeste de Greenwich; a una altitud de 282 metros.

Colinda al Noreste con Carbó y San Miguel de Horcasitas, al Este con Ures y Mazatán; al Sureste con La Colorada y Guaymas; al Noreste con Pitiquito y al Suroeste con el Golfo de Cortés. Posee una superficie de 14,880.2 Km², que representa el 8.2% del total estatal y el 0.76 en relación a la nación.

Hidrografía

Los recursos hidrológicos se componen básicamente por los ríos Sonora y San Miguel que confluyen a pocos kilómetros al este de la cabecera municipal. El mas importante es el río Sonora, nace al Noreste del Estado y es el único con caudal permanente. Ocupa el tercer lugar en el estado en cuanto a extensión de cuenca y magnitud de aportaciones. El río San Miguel cuenta con una cuenca de 8,427 Kms. y nace en la serranía de los municipios de Cucurpe, Rayón y San Miguel de Horcasitas, y vierte sus aguas en las inmediaciones de la ciudad de Hermosillo, sobre el vaso de almacenamiento de la presa Abelardo L. Rodríguez y es utilizada para el consumo de la población, para riego agrícola y recarga del manto acuífero.

Actualmente en el año 2000, dada la sequía general que afecta a nuestro país, estos ríos están practicamente secos por lo que el agua se obtiene de depósitos del subsuelo.

The City of Hermosillo is located in the County with the same name found at the West of the State of Sonora, over North parallel 29 ^o05'and the West Meridian 110^o 57' at a altitude of 282 meters (845 feet).

Hermosillo County is bounded Noreast by Carbo and San Miguel Horacasitas; East by Ures and Mazatan; Southeast by La Colorada and Guaymas; Northeast by Pitiquito and Southwest by the Gulf of Cortes. Hermosillo county has an area of 3,675 Acres (14,880.2 Sq.Km.) , that represents 8.2% of the State land and 0.76% of the Nation's Surface.

Hydrography

The hydrologic resources are basically the rivers Sonora and San Miguel that meet a few miles east from Hermosillo. The most important is the Sonora River, that starts at the Northeast of the State of Sonora. It is the third longest river in the State (after the Yaqui and the Mayo rivers). San Miguel river runs along 5,266 Mi (8,427 Kms.) and borns in the mountains of Cucurpe, Rayon and San Miguel de Horcasitas draining its waters close to the City, over the Abelardo L. Rodriguez Dam and it is used (when given) for the population consumtion and for the agricultural activities.

Presently in the year 2000, due to the generalized drought affecting our Country, these rivers are practically dry so the water is obtained from underground reservoirs.
